KBS presents its AI-based multicam production solution ‘VVERTIGO’at USA NAB

KBS Media Technology Research Institute(Kim Jung-Deok, Director) will showcase its AI-based multicam production solution 'VVERTIGO’ at the NAB Show 2023 held in Las Vegas in the coming days. This technology allows for low-cost and highly efficient multicam production by creating individual videos based on auto-tracking of multiple persons(subject) in a video shot with a single 8K camera.

Since 2019, it has been used to make official fancams of <Music Bank>, <Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend> and uploaded on its Youtube Channel, KBS K-pop, which has 7.6 million global subscribers. With VVERTIGO, the production team creates individual fancams of group singers without any additional cameras and post them on YouTube on the day of the show.

VVERTIGO is also used in entertainment programme <Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant> and children’s programme <Who’s the best singer?>. It captures the vivid reactions of each guest without mobilizing additional equipment or staffs. The solution is now deployed in multicam shows including observational entertainment and studio programmes.

KBS, however, does not rest on its laurels, aiming to commercialize VVERTIGO and enter the global market. Already in 2020, VVERTIGO was licensed out for LG U+ content ‘Idol Live’ and will be used for creating fancam of star players in KOVO Cup, the professional volleyball league, in August 2023.

In December 2022, ‘VVERTIGO Live’ was launched to support live production. It interacts with UHD cameras in real-time for multicam video production as if using four cameras without a director. In fact, KBS has significantly improved AI performance to enable real-time processing. ‘VVERTIGO Live’ solution will be further developed to be utilized in many different contents including sports, concert, and live commerce.

At the NAB Show 2023, visitors to the KBS booth (West Hall W4126) can experience VVERTIGO in person, and also see Music Bank videos displayed on LG SIGNATURE OLED 8K, which are produced with Korea’s only 8K HDR. KBS will showcase its impressive VVERTIGO technology globally and explore business opportunities for overseas market at the upcoming NAB Show 2023.
